The Best Little Fly Shop on the Blackfoot River
Nestled at the end of a historical Trading Post in the tiny downtown of Ovando Montana, in what used to be home to town's blacksmith a hundred years past, you'll find the "Best little fly shop on the Blackfoot River", the Blackfoot Angler & Supplies. Carrying the largest fly selection from Missoula to Great Falls and Helena; the Blackfoot Angler is a must see stop for every fly fisherman experiencing the magic of the legendary Blackfoot River, made famous in the movie "A River Runs Through It".
Literally a Ma & Pa ownership, owners Travis Thurmond and Kathy Schoendoerfer continue to expand the little rustic fly shop which has preserved its old western atmosphere. We offer Orvis, Simms, Rio and Redington products. Hunting and fishing licenses and everything ever thought of by and for fly fishermen is available at the Blackfoot Angler, from magnifying glasses to lip balm, from nippers to waders. They offer hundreds of fly patterns, all specific for the Big Blackfoot River and it's surrounding tributaries and lakes.
Owned by Travis Thurmond and Kathy Schoendoerfer, the Blackfoot Angler is located off Highway 200 between Lincoln and Clearwater Seeley Lake Junction, and 60 miles from the metropolis of Missoula. It is situated amongst popular wade and float sites.
We're not just a fly shop. We carry camping and bicycle supplies, locally made crafts, along with logo'd shirts and hats.
If you are lucky, and you like dogs, you might enter the Blackfoot Angler and receive a rousing greeting from: Rawley, our Rocky Mountain River Basset, the rock climbing hound who loves floating, fishing, crossing country skiing and hiking.
And Maggie our rescued lab mix who is a championship Frisbee chasing, lightning fast, Bear alarm.
The Blackfoot River is enjoying some of the best fishing in decades due to habitat improvements and the hard work of individuals and local organizations, including the Big Blackfoot Chapter of Trout Unlimited, aka BBCTU, and the Blackfoot Challenge.
